Fashion Meets Tech: Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2011
Fashion met technology at the Diane von Furstenberg+ HP Experience Lounge where guests gathered for an exclusive live streaming of the designer’s highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The multimedia lounge at the West Village flagship was a fashion blogger’s dream: HP touch screens were mounted on the walls displaying Twitter livestreams of dedicated hashtag #DVFlounge. HP computer stations and printers were available for guests to print photos. The lounge even offered chargers for smartphones for those running between shows. It was all very ingenious and well thought out.
Now onto the clothes. Oh the clothes. There was quite a bit of mystery surrounding this collection because of DVF’s new Creative Director, Yvan Mispelaere. Needless to say, the collection (and partnership) was a success. This collection was called “Goddess” so naturally there was significant draping, but what kept it grounded were the geometric prints, which were the highlight of this collection for me. The colors were amazing – there were rich neutrals as well as bold, electric hues. There were also a few hooded looks, which admittedly felt un-DVF to me at first when I read through the run of show, but I am happy to say I was wrong – hoods have never looked so sophisticated and glamorous.
