Naeem Khan Spring Summer 2011
Naeem Khan is one designer who I had the pleasure of meeting in person. I met him when I worked as assistant to Tim Gunn on his late makeover show on Bravo TV. Naeem Khan was a designer guest and yours truly had the privilege of offering him some Starbucks (hey, we all start somewhere). He politely declined though Tim wanted an iced black tea lemonade :) Anyway, this is all to say that since I have met the man, I have been rooting for him and was sincerely happy when he had his Obama moment. And was sincerely happy again when he received a standing ovation after his S/S 2011 runway show.
What I love about Khan is his craftsmanship. As usual, there were plenty of beautifully and intricately beaded/embroidered/sequined pieces in Khan’s signature opulence. What was particularly smart about this collection was Khan had in mind where his core clientele would be traveling to in the warmer months and designed beautiful evening wear and caftans appropriate for that group. But he also had a few pieces that were fit for the young socialite going on a glamourous Bali adventure with her #GG clique.
There were some red carpet worthy dresses as well. One piece in particular that left my mouth agape was a white column with ostrich feathers sweeping the floor. It was quite magnificent and hope very much it will get the attention it (and Khan) deserves.
